Smoking

From time to time various videos of periodontal interest will be posted for educational and guidance purposes. Τhe first video is about the relationship between smoking and periodontal health

The negative impact of smoking on general health (lung disease, heart disease, cancer) is widely accepted. What most people are unaware of is that smoking, in addition to oral cancer, has a detrimental effect on periodontal and peri-implant health.

In comparison to non-smokers, smokers can have more advanced periodontal disease, quicker progression of the disease and more severe destruction of the bone. Moreover, the response to treatment is poorer and the chance of disease recurrence after successful outcome is higher.

Smoking cessation is strongly advised for the benefit of general health.
